The new wave of black creators in film has opened up more than your avergae genre that we see more in this modern age.

From Afrofuturiam to Syfy, we have covered it all. And if we didn’t cover it we’re going to!

Here are top five films that you have to add to your watchlist if you haven’t done so already!

  • See You Yesterday: Two teenage science prodigies spend every spare minute working on their latest homemade invention: backpacks that enable time travel. When one of their older brothers is killed, they put their unfinished project to the test to save him.
  • Uncorked: A young man upsets his father when he pursues his dream of becoming a master sommelier instead of joining the family barbecue business.
  • Passing: In 1920s New York City, a black woman finds her world up-ended when her life becomes intertwined with a former childhood friend who’s passing as white.
  • Ms. Virgina: An impoverished single mother is losing her 15-year-old son to the rough streets of Washington, D.C. Unwilling to see him drop out and deal drugs, she places him in a private school. But when she can’t afford the tuition, she soon launches a movement to change the system that is destroying him and thousands of others.
